Wow - Be Careful at the Beach!
Summer has officially started and everybody wants to go to the beach! With that said, a few days ago a "huge" Great White shark was spotted by a spear fisherman with his underwater GoPro Camera. A video and write up of the encounter can be found here.
I thought that this was really amazing considering we (Floridians) aren't used to hearing about Great White's on our coast(s). It's not that there aren't plenty of other types of sharks that are abundant, like the Mako, Bull, Tiger, Black Tip, Spinner, etc, but the Great White is just plain scary.
Everybody be careful when you are out in the water, as sharks have also been known to attack in shallow waters.

Largest Volunteer Clean Up in Fort Pierce!
Recently there were volunteers from civic groups, local businesses, boy and girl clubs, and schools, who were all involved in The Great American Clean Up program. All of the community help is what makes this so great.
The day/event wasn't proposed just to clean the area(s), but also to bring the community together during the environmental transformations. The droves of support from all over Fort Pierce, and also some from surrounding areas, is what I think the Public Works Department (PWD) and the KFPB Advisory Board envisioned when they coordinated the day.
This wasn't all sweat and hot sun though, either. After the clean up, 200 volunteers were transported to the Public Works Compound for a perfect late-spring picnic.
